Middle School Mathematics Teacher
The Math Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing effective mathematics instruction for students in grades 6-8. The Math Teacher fosters a positive learning environment, develops engaging lesson plans, and supports students in developing strong mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Selecting instructional goals aligned with the Delaware content standards and the district or charter school's curricula.
- Planning for learning activities that support student learning relative to the district or charter school's curricula.
- Showing knowledge of content and how to teach it to a variety of learners.
- Creating and/or selecting assessments that are congruent with instructional goals, criteria, and standards.
- Establishing behavioral expectations and consequences and monitoring student conduct.
- Creating an atmosphere in which learning is valued.
- Organizing, allocating, and managing physical space to create a safe learning environment.
- Using physical resources to contribute to effective instruction and making resources accessible to all students.
- Teaching content that is appropriate, clear, and linked to student knowledge and experience.
- Having a repertoire of instructional strategies and making use of them to modify lessons as needed.
- Communicating clearly and appropriately to students' ages, backgrounds, and levels of understanding.
- Encouraging students to pose their own questions and being responsive to student questions.
- Facilitating student-led discussions.
- Making the criteria of the assessment known to the students, monitoring the students' progress, providing descriptive feedback, promoting student self-assessment, and using data to plan future instruction.
- Sharing information about the school's educational program and expectations for student performance.
- Developing a mechanism for two-way communication with families about student progress, behavior, and personal needs or concerns.
- Keeping records of attendance, disciplinary actions, emergency contact information, and personal information.
- Choosing and participating in professional development that is aligned with professional needs and the needs of the school, district or charter school, or students.
- Engaging in reflective thinking as an individual, as a team participant, or as a school community member with the goal of improving instruction and learning for all students.

Competencies required include:
- Familiarity with the Delaware Teacher Growth Support System (DTGSS).
- Understanding of equity initiatives and resources that promote a culture of diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Special Education, 504 Plans.
- Awareness of relevant policies and procedures mandated by the State of DE including Comprehensive School Safety Program and Delaware Emergency Management Agency.
- Experience and working knowledge of Infinite Campus and data management systems in addition to Google Docs to monitor and track student data related to school discipline and climate.
