Overview

As a PA/NP employed by Apico Pain Management, you will work closely with hospital staff to provide inpatient pain management services. You will assess, manage, and treat patients experiencing both acute and chronic pain in the hospital setting, utilizing a combination of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and ensure the highest standard of care in pain management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive pain assessments for hospitalized patients, including medical history, physical examinations, and diagnostic testing.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for pain management in collaboration with attending physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Manage and adjust pain management therapies, including opioid and non-opioid medications, nerve blocks, and other interventions.
  • Monitor patient progress, assess the effectiveness of pain treatment, and make necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families on pain management strategies, including medication use, physical therapy, and lifestyle adjustments.
  • Provide ongoing pain management and symptom control throughout the patient’s hospitalization, ensuring timely and appropriate care.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physical therapists, and other specialists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Document patient evaluations, treatment plans, and progress in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staying current with evidence-based practices and pain management guidelines.
  • Provide consultation and support to hospital departments regarding complex pain management cases.
  • Advocate for safe and effective pain management practices, including opioid stewardship and alternative treatments.
  • Provide recommendations for discharge pain management medication regimen in collaboration with the primary consulting service.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (for PA) or Inpatient Nursing Practitioner (for NP).
  • Board certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).
  • Current state licensure in Delaware.
  • Preferred:
    Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in pain management or related clinical areas; inpatient experience is preferred. If the applicant does not have experience, we are motivated to provide ample training.
  • Proficiency in the management of acute and chronic pain conditions, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills, with the ability to handle complex and challenging patient scenarios.
  • Commitment to providing patient-centered care and contributing to a collaborative, supportive work environment.
  • Knowledge of current pain management guidelines, opioid stewardship, and evidence-based best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in Pain Management or related specialty.
  • Experience working in inpatient settings or hospital-based care.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
