Supervisor:
Shelter Veterinarian – hourly pay rate: $12.00

Job Duties
  • Perform daily cleaning and sterilization of the clinic work area, including use of medical equipment and assembly of instrument packs, ensuring all cages are clean before leaving for the day.
  • Ensure all animals in clinic cages have access to food and water when appropriate, and that cages and litter are kept clean.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, check‑off lists, and posted guidance.
  • Assist veterinary staff by moving/restraining animals, administering medications or preventatives, and setting up fecal floats.
  • Communicate with all staff in a polite and professional manner.
  • Maintain stock of routinely used consumables in the clinic area.
  • Help with laundry by switching out a load whenever one is dropped off.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other administrative events as scheduled by management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Current working knowledge of companion animal care and adoption issues, transmittable disease in felines, zoonotic diseases, and safe, humane animal handling procedures.
  • Ability to properly handle and dispose of animal waste, hazardous chemicals/materials, and sharp objects.
  • Ability to work with a variety of animal species, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and reptiles.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, both within the HSDC and to the general public.
  • Reliable and dependable; attendance is critical to the shelter animal’s health and welfare.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Electronic deposit (ACH) of paycheck is required.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
  • Ability to work in an emotionally taxing field – a positive attitude and sense of humor are essential.
  • Work performed in an animal shelter with exposure to temperature variations, high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, animal waste, hazardous chemicals or other materials requiring OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets, anesthetics, sharp objects, and potential hostile persons or dangerous animals.
  • Ability to multi‑task in a constantly changing environment.
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts, including weekends, holidays, or during emergencies.
  • May be required to work long or unusual hours during peak operational needs.
  • Ability to stand or remain active during the entire shift; lift and carry objects and animals up to 50 pounds; lift, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and perform other strenuous activities.

This is an at‑will position. This position has a 90‑day probationary period.
