Substitute teachers are essential members of our school community; they impact students on a daily basis in meaningful and mission-driven ways through their versatility in the classroom.
Substitute teachers work on an on-call or as-needed basis. They provide a valuable service to our students and kumu by delivering a quality instructional program that helps keep consistent the goals and integrity of the ʻike Hawaiʻi program. The ideal candidates will have the ability to adapt to new environments and provide a classroom environment capable of the smooth delivery of ongoing instructional programs.

Monday - Friday, Variable hours between 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Schedule will vary based on operational needs - Daily Rate: $172.50
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in area of relevance or equivalent cultural accomplishment.
- Three (3) years of experience working in a K-12 setting, specifically with ʻIke Hawaiʻi teaching and learning preferred.
- Familiarity with ʻike Hawaiʻi curriculum and teaching through culturally grounded pedagogy for various age ranges.
- Proficiency in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language) at an intermediate level or higher, as measured by the ACTFL scale or equivalent, preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in ʻIke ʻOihana Hawaiʻi (traditional cultural practices), with preferred competencies in hula and/or mele.
- Foundational knowledge of Mōʻaukala Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian History), preferred.
- Experience in Hana Noʻeau Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Fine Arts), preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate Hawaiian language and culture content with confidence and cultural integrity.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet use.
- Familiarity with educational technology and Apple devices to support instruction and student learning.
- Working knowledge of educational software, video, and office equipment.
