Overview
Lewiston is Clearwater Paper’s original manufacturing facility and home to nearly 700 team members who power our site. The facility produces paperboard used in products across the United States, including food packaging, plates, cups and more. The site currently operates two paper machines, two extruders, two power boilers and two recovery boilers. Located near the Idaho-Washington border where the Snake and Clearwater rivers meet, Lewiston offers access to outdoor activities in a milder climate.
WhatYou Will Do
The Senior Reliability Engineer is responsible for managing assigned projects from concept through start-up, providing in-plant engineering support to maintenance, and leading RCFA to eliminate equipment reliability issues.
Responsibilities- Provides technical assistance to production, reliability and quality groups to solve equipment and process-related problems and develops methods to improve processes.
- Optimizes manufacturing processes by investigating and eliminating root causes of equipment failures.
- Evaluates new technologies, implements process changes and develops systems to reduce operating costs, increase production and improve quality.
- Leads the technical process for operating areas to solve equipment and process-related problems.
- Provides support data for all reports and performance updates.
- Performs data analysis to reduce variability or improve performance.
- Reviews production schedules and suggests modifications to reduce downtime and/or changeovers where applicable.
- Assists with designing solutions to eliminate equipment failures and process instabilities.
- Coordinates failure analysis and oversees related programs to improve reliability.
- Tracks data by department and analyzes work orders to recommend changes in maintenance or operational procedures.
- Develops, coordinates, and conducts reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts.
- Investigates and analyzes variables potentially affecting product and processes; ensures corrective measures meet reliability standards.
- Proposes changes in design or formulation to improve system or process reliability as needed.
- Collaborates with operations and maintenance teams to achieve downtime reduction goals.
- Assists in managing Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs including vibration coverage, plant tank and pressure vessel integrity, and pre-post failure reports.
- Participates in developing less experienced engineers and may manage capital projects when required.
- Facilitates Reliability Steering Teams.
- Demonstrates leadership in applying reliability best practices across the mill.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Minimum seven (7) years of engineering experience, preferably in the paper industry and preferably reliability engineering experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel;
AutoCAD experience preferred. - Demonstrated ability to effectively work with vendors, managers, and production employees to achieve goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Capable of managing Process Safety Management programs.
- Familiar with construction and repair codes (ASME, API, NBIC, NEC, etc.).
- Knowledgeable with maintenance best practices (vibration analysis, oil analysis, etc.) preferred.
- Able to understand and troubleshoot complex industrial systems and equipment.
- Understanding of LEAN manufacturing and Continuous Improvement concepts preferred.
- Professional Engineering license preferred.
- Experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment with exposure to high-frequency noise; ability to stand for extended periods and walk on concrete.
- Personal protective equipment required in mill environment and exposure to dirt, odor, and temperature extremes.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding and be exposed to hazardous chemicals used in the manufacturing process.
