The Oncology Registered Nurse provides compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to oncology patients throughout the continuum of treatment. Responsibilities include chemotherapy administration, patient assessment and education, supportive care coordination, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to promote quality outcomes and patient-centered care.
Essential Functions- Provides direct nursing care for oncology patients, including chemotherapy, blood product administration, and electrolyte replacement
- Performs initial and ongoing nursing assessments and triage for new and established patients
- Educates patients and families about diagnosis, treatment regimens, side effects, and home care instructions
- Provides emotional support, counseling, and appropriate referrals, including palliative and bereavement services when needed
- Maintains accurate documentation in compliance with hospital, nursing, and oncology-specific standards
- Follows safety, infection control, and environmental standards for administering cytotoxic agents
- Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives and contributes to policy development
- May serve as preceptor and support orientation or training of staff and students
- Assists with research-related activities or special projects as assigned
- Knowledge of oncology-specific treatments, side effects, and symptom management
- Strong patient education and interpersonal communication skills
- Competency in intravenous therapy and safe handling of chemotherapy agents
- Ability to assess physical and emotional needs of oncology patients
- Proficiency in EMR documentation and interdisciplinary communication
- Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) from an accredited school of nursing (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or related field (Preferred)
- Health Services N - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of practice Upon Hire (Required)
- Health Services CLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or within Facility-Specified time frame (Required)
- Health Services CN - Oncology Nurse Certification and or Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification Upon Hire or within Facility-Specified time frame (Preferred)
- 1+ years medical/surgical nursing experience (Required)
- Prior Experience in oncology nursing (Preferred)
