Position Overview
The Manager in Training (MIT) works with the store manager and team to achieve sales goals, drive a customer-focused environment, manage talent and performance, and execute visual standards. The MIT participates in a training program to prepare them for a store manager position within 3–6 months and is expected to relocate to a new store or group of stores as needed.
Responsibilities- Customer Obsession:
Drive a customer-focused store environment, demonstrate fashion expertise and product knowledge, and consistently show awareness for the customer in actions, priorities, and decisions. - Driving Sales:
Manage sales goals by analyzing performance, adjust plans and priorities to achieve goals, oversee payroll hours to sustain profitability, assess visual needs and implement promotional changes, prepare schedules, and direct team use of sales-driving programs. - Talent Management:
Make hiring decisions, nurture talent through networks, develop successors and talent pools, provide positive and corrective feedback, coach associates, and create an environment that allows others to reach their full potential while fostering a fun and rewarding climate. - Operational Execution:
Maintain an operationally sound store through opportunity audits, minimize inventory loss, enforce policies and procedures, respond to violations, and ensure use of company resources such as POS, visual, HR, and operations systems.
- High School Degree or GED required; business or retail merchandising degree preferred.
- Supervisory experience required in a customer-focused environment; fashion industry experience preferred.
- Proven track record of achieving and setting goals and executing company direction.
- Experience in hiring, promoting, and motivating talent.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, professionalism, decision-making ability, and perseverance in the face of resistance or setbacks.
- Commitment to a specific store location or a group of new and existing stores.
- Work varied hours/days as business dictates.
- Ability to reach, push, pull, stand, squat, and bend for up to 8 hours or longer as necessary.
- Operate and use all equipment required to run the store, including a computerized register system.
- Move or handle merchandise throughout the store, weighing up to 50 pounds.
