This position is open until filled. Anticipated starting salary is $47,584.06. Full hiring range is $47,584.06 - $74,908.10.
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Street Maintenance Supervisor and Stormwater Coordinator, perform intermediate unskilled and semi‑skilled work on a variety of public works assets including utilities construction, sidewalks, stormwater structures and facilities: maintenance and repair projects; occasionally operate a variety of equipment, in connection with assigned tasks.
Essential DutiesPerform specialized duties in the construction, maintenance and repair of City streets, alleys, and right of ways. Participate in asphalt overlays, paving, hot and cold mix pavement patching, seal coating, sealing cracks and other related repairs.
Perform a variety of construction projects including storm system and concrete pavement repair. Concrete work includes building forms, mixing, pouring and finishing. Storm system work includes repair, building or replacement of catch basins, excavation with heavy equipment and repair, replacement or installation of new culverts or pipes.
Perform routine maintenance of storm water systems, clean and maintain catch basins, lines, culverts, oil and grit separators, drainage ditches, swales, ponds. Perform inspections, clear obstructions, use jet line, pole, and push cameras to video lines, assist with inventory and mapping.
Complete and document stormwater inspections for construction projects and post‑construction inspections. Assist the Stormwater Program Manager with MS4 Program implementation and management.
Operate a street sweeper and flush truck, cut streets and sidewalks with jackhammer, pavement saw, or pavement grinder. Load waste material into dump trucks and transport to dumpsites.
Operate specialized equipment: asphalt mixing pug mill, asphalt paver, asphalt distributor, chip spreader, crack sealing equipment, backhoe, snow plow, liquid deicer distributor, dump truck, front end loader, road grader, steel drum and rubber tired rollers, flush truck, street sweepers, jet truck, boom truck, skid steer loader, asphalt pavement grinders, forklift, power hand tools such as jackhammers, pavement saws, chainsaws, trench compactors.
Dig trenches, backfill excavations, assist in site cleanup, general cleanup of right of ways or other areas.
Respond to and assist with construction and maintenance assigned to other City departments. Remove tree limbs, litter, debris that are obstructions or hazards. Participate in emergency response: winter storm events, flooding, road obstructions, pavement damage.
Maintain inventory of tools, equipment and supplies on maintenance vehicles. Perform safety inspections and preventive maintenance. Perform fabrication and repair welding as needed.
Operate computers and tablets using Microsoft Office, Cartegraph OMS, Google, and GIS applications. Perform data entry, record keeping, and report preparation.
Utilize work zone traffic control devices and flag traffic per City standards.
Assist in estimation of materials needed for street and storm system repairs.
Perform other related duties as required.
Other Job FunctionsAssist Traffic Services Technicians with construction and maintenance duties involving pavement marking, sign construction, repair of street lights, traffic control devices, street lights, signage, etc.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
High school graduation or GED and at least two years of entry‑level street maintenance and construction work. Stormwater experience operating a Jet Vac or vacuum truck is preferred.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Class B driver’s license with tank endorsement and no transmission or air brake restrictions; or ability to obtain within 12 months. State of Idaho approved flagger card within 6 months, Traffic Control Technician Certification within 18 months.
