Accounts Payable Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support a banking organization in Lewiston, Maine on a Contract basis. This role focuses on accurate invoice processing, payment coordination, and account coding while helping maintain timely and well-documented financial operations. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, sound judgment in handling payable transactions, and the ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

- Review incoming invoices for accuracy, assign the appropriate general ledger codes, and prepare items for payment processing.

- Manage day-to-day accounts payable activities, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and completed within established timelines.

- Process ACH payments and assist with scheduled check runs to support timely disbursement to vendors and partners.

- Investigate discrepancies related to invoices, payment amounts, or coding issues and work with internal contacts to resolve them promptly.

- Maintain organized payment records and supporting documentation to promote accuracy, audit readiness, and compliance with company standards.

- Reconcile payable information against internal records and identify exceptions that require follow-up or correction.

- Communicate with vendors and cross-functional teams regarding payment status, documentation needs, and account questions. Requirements - Hands-on experience performing accounts payable duties in a detail-focused business environment.

- Working knowledge of invoice coding and the ability to allocate expenses accurately across accounts.

- Experience handling ACH transactions and supporting recurring or scheduled check processing.

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to spot errors, inconsistencies, and missing information.

- Proficiency using accounting or financial systems to enter, track, and maintain payable records.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced setting.
