Dirt Estimator
Trueline's client, a well-established heavy civil and site development contractor, is seeking a Dirt Estimator to join their team in Maine. This role is ideal for an estimator with strong earthwork, excavation, grading, utility, and site preparation experience who can build accurate estimates from plans, field conditions, and historical cost data.
What You'll Do as the Dirt Estimator- Prepare estimates for excavation, grading, sitework, utilities, drainage, and earthmoving projects
- Complete quantity takeoffs using estimating and takeoff software
- Review plans and specifications to define project scope and site constraints
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess field conditions
- Solicit pricing from subcontractors, trucking providers, material suppliers, and vendors
- Develop preliminary schedules based on project documents
- Collaborate with leadership to close bids and support project handoff
- Use historical cost data to price labor, equipment, materials, production rates, and subcontracted work
- 4+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, excavation, sitework, utilities, or earthwork
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, utility installation, and site development
- Ability to read civil plans, specs, and project documents
- Experience building estimates from scratch
- Comfortable with takeoffs, quantities, production rates, and cost analysis
- Strong communication skills with internal teams, GCs, owners, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Experience with HCSS, Agtek, Stack, or similar software
- DOT, municipal, state, federal, or negotiated bid experience
- Background working for an excavation, utility, or sitework contractor
- Familiarity with bid bonds, preliminary schedules, and project handoffs
- Base salary roughly $90,000-$150,000 depending on experience
- Vacation package negotiable based on candidate fit
- Company vehicle or vehicle stipend of approximately $245/week plus fuel coverage
- Company phone or $60/month reimbursement
