POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
Hebert Construction is a full-service regional contractor based in Lewiston, Maine, specializing in Commercial, Corporate, Healthcare, Institutional, and Public Housing markets. Our clients rely on us for expertise in General Contracting, Construction Management, Design/Build, Preconstruction, and Self-Performance services. Serving Central, Coastal, and Southern Maine since 1943.
This is a full-time internship position designed for students or recent graduates pursuing a career in construction management. Interns will gain hands-on experience assisting project managers with planning, budgeting, scheduling, and project coordination while learning construction best practices. This position offers mentorship and the opportunity to contribute to real projects in a supportive environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist project managers with day-to-day project activities from conception to completion
- Support project scheduling, cost estimation, and reporting tasks
- Coordinate and share information with construction teams and subcontractors
- Assist in procuring project resources and equipment
- Participate in project inspections and documentation under the guidance of a project manager
- Take notes and help prepare meeting minutes for project meetings
- Learn to identify risks and assist in implementing mitigation strategies
- Support the team in ensuring quality construction standards and adherence to project specifications
- Gain exposure to smaller projects under supervision
- Other learning and support tasks as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND KNOWLEDGE
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- 0–4 year of construction experience (experience on larger projects is a plus, but not required)
- Interest in learning LEAN construction principles and construction best practices
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and plans is a plus
- Basic understanding of project scheduling and budgeting concepts
- Proficiency in Office 365; familiarity with Microsoft Project, Plan Swift, Sage Estimating, and Procore is a plus
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
- Eagerness to learn, take direction, and grow in a professional construction environment
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- This position operates primarily in an office environment with regular visits to project job sites
- Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing systems
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- May require exposure to construction site conditions under supervision
