Job Description Statement of the Job

The Positive Youth Development Professional for the Oh YEA! (Oh Youth Empowered Advocates!) 4-H Grows True Leaders Project is a temporary, full-time, grant-funded position serving Androscoggin and Sagadahoc Counties. Based in Lisbon Falls with primary work in Lewiston and surrounding communities, this role delivers culturally relevant, community-based youth development programming in partnership with schools, housing communities, nonprofits, businesses, and University of Maine Cooperative Extension faculty.

The position builds trusted relationships with youth, families, and community partners, particularly within bilingual, bicultural, New Mainer, and migrant communities, to co-design place-based learning experiences focused on food systems, healthy living, leadership development, service learning, and career exploration. Through hands‑on education and youth leadership initiatives, this role supports teens, youth, and adults in strengthening community connections, expanding access to resources, and fostering the next generation of Maine leaders and advocates.

This is a full-time, temporary position with an expected duration of six months. The monthly salary range is $3,750 to $4,000.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Positive Youth Development models including reflective learning and experiential learning design and delivery.
  • Experience teaching young people, especially in out of school settings and in conjunction with community partners.
  • Ability and willingness to work with culturally diverse audiences.
  • Computer skills both in work-related communication and in educational applications, such as blogging, website development.
  • Effective interpersonal communication and demonstrated effective work in a team environment.
  • Collaboration skills, particularly cross organizational collaborations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong public speaking and facilitation skills.
  • Multitasking skills and proven skills in successfully balancing multiple program duties.
  • Ability to travel both in and out-of-state, usually requiring a valid driver's license.
  • Independent as well as teamwork skills; must be self‑motivated and directed with the ability to achieve measurable results and manage multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment.
  • Work schedule flexibility depending upon the needs of clients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Cooperative Extension and its 4-H Youth Development programs.
  • Experience in establishing equity and belonging in community programs; demonstrated bicultural understanding/knowledge.
  • Experience working with at‑risk youth.
  • Bilingual with the ability to speak, write and interpret correctly.
  • Volunteer management and development experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing program funds.
  • Community education/teaching experience.
