SUMMARY:
Next STEP is a collaborative, 7-12 academic program that is grounded in the values and missions of Tree Street Youth and Lewiston Public Schools, and located in the Longley Building. Students and staff come together to co-create a dynamic learning environment that meets high expectations, within a culture of mutual respect, while honoring unique identities, life experiences, and aspirations.
This school year SY23-24, we are launching a new partnership with Lewiston Middle School to offer The "Dreamchaser Fellowship." This model will support a new cohort of LMS students every trimester. Cohorts will participate in Dreamchaser programming from 8:30a-2:00pm at the Next STEP/Longley building, each focused on a specific theme, culminating in a community-wide event.
We are looking for a Humanities Teacher, with an interdisciplinary focus, to join our highly collaborative, innovative, and passionate teaching team next year!
Salary: $45,518.26 - $85,857.57 (SY26/27)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
* Teaches standards-based curriculum in humanities (English/SS) and other subjects (as needed) to students at the middle school level.
* Creates unique projects for students that demonstrate real-world problem-solving, engage community partners, and inspire students to take ownership over their own learning
* Participates on a dynamic team that includes other teachers, ed-techs, CBO partners, and students
* Collaborates with coworkers to design program-wide, and community-based events to happen at least once a trimester
* Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated and designed by the team.
* Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
* Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and honors and supports students' unique identities, lived experiences, and social-emotional needs.
* Fosters a restorative climate in the classroom, upholding high standards for classroom behavior with opportunities to repair harm when and if it occurs.
* Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
* Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
* Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
* Develops relationships with students and families that are rooted in care
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises classroom and students. Volunteers with assistance, advice and
support from administration.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Teaching Certificate and endorsements. Employees who qualify will also be
supported in their pursuit of full certification over the course of three years.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
