SUMMARY
Next STEP is a collaborative, 7‑12 academic program grounded in the values and missions of Tree Street Youth and Lewiston Public Schools. The Next STEP High School Humanities teachers will join a highly collaborative, innovative, and passionate teaching team focused on designing and delivering curriculum with students.
Salary and BenefitsSalary: $45,518.26 – $85,857.57 (SY26/27)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Teaches standards‑based curriculum in humanities (English/SS) and other subjects (as needed) to students at the high‑school level.
- Creates unique projects for students that demonstrate real‑world problem‑solving, engage community partners, and inspire students to take ownership over their own learning.
- Participates on a dynamic team that includes other teachers, ed‑techs, CBO partners, and students.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated and designed by the team.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and honors and supports students' unique identities, lived experiences, and social‑emotional needs.
- Fosters a restorative climate in the classroom, upholding high standards for classroom behavior with opportunities to repair harm when and if it occurs.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals established, setting clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Is available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Develops relationships with students and families that are rooted in care.
Supervises classroom and students. Volunteers with assistance, advice, and support from administration.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSValid teaching certificate and endorsements. Employees who qualify will also receive support in their pursuit of full certification over the course of three years.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
