Position: Special Education 1:1 BHP Ed Tech II/III - Connors Elementary School

Assists Special Education Teacher in delivery of educational services indicated in students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP) within RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.

$20.86 - $28.12

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate 1:1, 1:2 and small group instruction for complex learners
    • Provide all academic and social opportunities throughout the day, including lunch, recess, hallway transitions, breaks, and transportation
    • Be present with students unless otherwise indicated by IEP/Teacher
  • Implement and follow an IEP and PBSP
    • Apply de-escalation strategies throughout the day
  • Set up classroom and individual student areas and prepare materials for specialized instruction
  • Collect and enter relevant data
  • Assemble/hang materials on bulletin boards and keep displays current as requested
  • Operate standard school equipment such as computer, laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
  • Follow the day‑to‑day schedule of students
  • Maintain constant attention during 1:1 and other direct services
    • Refrain from cell‑phone use except during personal breaks
    • Wear closed‑toe shoes and appropriate clothing
    • Follow precautions set forth in PBSP and by BCBA/clinician
    • Remain calm during unforeseen circumstances and challenging situations
Communication
  • Teamwork is imperative
    • Written communication should be legible, professional and in the best interest of students
    • Verbal communication should provide constructive feedback and follow directions from Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration
    • Communicate appropriately between Ed. Techs
Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide instruction in RISE/DT classroom with Special Education Teacher, leading 1:1, 1:2 and small groups in both RISE/DT and General Education classrooms as indicated.

Qualifications
  • Education & Experience – Three years postsecondary education or 90 credit hours of approved study in a related area (or 3 years work experience for vocational education). Required for Education Technician III and Behavioral Health Professional certifications.
  • Language Skills – Read, comprehend and write simple correspondence; present information to students, co‑teachers and staff.
  • Mathematical Skills – Add, subtract, multiply and divide; compute means, rates, ratios and percentages; construct bar and line graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability – Follow complex educational and behavioral treatment plans; devise solutions within applicable laws and ABA methodology.

    Skills and Abilities

    – Previous child‑care or education experience preferred; build effective relationships; communicate clearly; advocate inclusion; comply with district requirements and policies.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, talk or listen; stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; lift or move up to 50 pounds; push items up to 50 pounds such as pushing children on a bike or moving furniture.

Environment typically loud at an acceptable level; continuously responsible for the safety, well‑being and work output of students.
