Special Education Coordinator
Responsible for facilitating IEP and/or 504 meetings, supervising and evaluating special education staff, as well as supporting staff, students and families. Responsible for developing professional development opportunities for teachers and educational technicians. Responsible for managing staff assignments and duties.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Builds trust and confidence with students, staff, and families.
- Assists with planning of curriculum, lessons, and special ed programming.
- Encourages good citizenship.
- Instructs individuals and groups on special education skill areas.
- Maintains contact with all stakeholders from IEP teams: parents of students, special education teachers, service providers, psychologists, outside agencies, and administration.
- Ensures that follow up paperwork and communication takes place after all meetings.
- Ensures paperwork is in compliance at all times.
- Evaluates and supervises special education teachers, service providers, and support staff.
- Chairs IEP/504 meetings.
- Assists staff with IEP development.
- Assists with professional development and implementation under the Special Education Assistant Principal.
- Communicates and maintains positive relationships with parents and the community.
- Conducts assessments using standardized and non-standardized assessments such as: intellectual, behavioral, academic, observational, psychometric, processing and adaptive assessments for identification and program planning.
- Helps to analyze and synthesize all evaluation data to assist in determining eligibility and/or program needs.
- Helps to determine what evaluations are needed to answer the referral questions.
- Confers with special education, regular education staff, and administrators re: a variety of student and program needs.
- Proactively consults with the IEP Team.
- Supports L.R.E. and best practices.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities include facilitation of IEP/504 meetings, assist and supervise in professional development for staff, oversee programming for special education students and any other tasks as assigned. Supervision and evaluation of staff.
Qualification requirements include:
Education and/or experience:
Bachelor's degree in education with experience in Special Education and 045 certification preferred.
Certificates, licenses, registrations:
Valid teaching certificate with one or more special education endorsements. 045 certification or eligibility for certification is preferred.
