The Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering Technician supports Nitro’s Engineering Department by creating accurate, production-ready trailer drawings and models using
Solid Works
. This role is responsible for developing blueprints for standard trailer models, custom builds, and new product development. The position may also oversee the operation and maintenance of Nitro’s
3D printing equipment to support prototyping and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role directly impacts manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and the successful launch of new designs.
Duties & Responsibilities- Create detailed Solid Works 3D models and 2D drawings for trailers, components, and assemblies.
- Produce manufacturing-ready blueprints that align with Nitro’s build standards and fabrication capabilities.
- Update and maintain engineering documentation, including revision control
, drawing updates, and BOM accuracy. - Collaborate with production, welding, and finishing teams to ensure drawings are practical, efficient, and easy to follow.
- Support custom trailer builds by translating customer requirements into accurate engineering drawings.
- Assist with new product development
, including prototyping, testing, and design improvements. - Operate and maintain 3D printers for prototype parts, fixtures, and engineering samples.
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturability, reduce waste, and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Troubleshoot design issues and provide engineering support to the shop floor as needed.
- Ensure all drawings meet Nitro’s quality, safety, and compliance standards.
- Proficiency in Solid Works
, including assemblies, configurations, and complex part modeling. - Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings for fabricated or welded products.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes
, including welding, bending, machining, and assembly. - Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and design-for-manufacturing (DFM).
- Ability to interpret and create BOMs, GD&T, and engineering documentation.
- Experience with 3D printing (FDM or similar) preferred but not required.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with production teams.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
