Position: ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TECHNICIAN

Job Summary

The Environmental Services Technician is an essential care team member who provides indirect patient/resident care and maintains a pleasant, clean, safe, and functional environment for patients, visitors, and employees. The EVS Tech works in the laundry area, housekeeping, and floor care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
GENERAL CLEANING DUTIES
  • Routinely cleans, dusts, polishes, vacuums, sweeps, and mops patient rooms and other designated areas.
  • Empties, cleans, and relines wastebaskets and pad containers. Empties hamper and remove soiled linen.
  • Cleans and disinfects patient equipment and furniture, including wheelchairs.
  • Strips, cleans, and prepares stretchers and beds for new patients.
  • Cleans spills as requested according to policies.
  • Cleans and disinfects all bathrooms on assigned unit(s).
FLOOR CARE MAINTENANCE
  • Cleans, strips, refinishes, and buffs floors using appropriate chemicals and various pieces of equipment such as low and high-speed buffers, auto scrubbers, and wet vacs.
  • Vacuums and washes carpets using low-speed scrubbers and carpet extractors.
  • Moves furnishings as necessary.
FOLLOW LAUNDRY PROCEDURES
  • Layout and prepare linens for processing through various finishing equipment.
  • Feed Flatwork Ironer, small piece folder
  • Receive linens from the folder, cross folder, or stacker.
  • Fold and stack linens according to identification, types, and sizes
  • Stock shelves and linen carts according to established par levels
MAINTAIN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT
  • Uses proper universal precautions, chemical safety, and body mechanics.
  • Reports and makes out requisitions for needed repairs.
  • Monitors, collects, and replaces sharps containers appropriately.
MAINTAIN STOCK AND SUPPLIES
  • Restocks and maintains pantry supplies.
  • Restocks and maintains cleaning supplies.
  • Replenishes paper supplies and soap dispensers as needed.
  • Maintains and replenishes housekeeping cart and closet.
PATIENT SERVICES
  • Assists in responding to patient call lights promptly and courteously.
  • Is flexible in changing routine in response to patient and unit needs.
  • Assists in taking care of patient's belongings.
  • Provide brief patient observation as requested. Delivers water and ice chips.
  • Assists with patient transport/ running errands if needed.
  • Discuss concerns with the supervisor.
  • Refers patient requests to the appropriate person.
  • Let appropriate staff know when housekeeping supplies are low.
  • Reports safety hazards and patient issues.
  • Assists in new staff orientation as assigned.
  • Attends departmental staff meetings and reads and signs off on minutes of meetings not attended.
  • Participates in self-evaluation process.
  • Acts as a resource/may provide in-service education in qualified areas of expertise.
  • Maintains all required competencies and completes annual compliance courses on time.
  • Other duties as assigned within the EVS department.
  • Employees must be crossed trained and flexible to perform all duties assigned within EVS.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Comp Range

$15.32 - $20.79
