Location:
Lewiston, ME
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
We are seeking a professional, organized, and customer-focused Medical Secretary to join a busy medical practice in Lewiston, Maine. This position plays a vital role in ensuring patients receive exceptional service while supporting providers and staff through efficient scheduling, communication, and administrative support.
The ideal candidate will have prior healthcare office experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities- Schedule and reschedule patient appointments accurately and efficiently
- Verify and update patient information during each visit
- Answer incoming phone calls professionally and direct callers appropriately
- Take detailed telephone messages and enter them accurately into the EMR system
- Coordinate and complete "Clip Program" requirements by gathering and communicating required patient information to dialysis units prior to treatment start dates
- Assist with clerical duties, filing, scanning, indexing, and document management
- Monitor fax communications and process incoming documents appropriately
- Handle medical records requests from outside providers and medical offices
- Provide outstanding customer service to patients, physicians, management, and coworkers
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Assist with special projects and other administrative tasks as assigned
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
Experience
- Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare or medical office setting preferred
Preferred Skills
- Typing speed of 50 WPM
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems
- Strong telephone and customer service skills
- Knowledge of office equipment, computers, and standard office procedures
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Accurate filing, recordkeeping, and document management skills
- Communicates clearly and professionally with patients, families, providers, and staff
- Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail
- Can prioritize tasks and work independently
- Maintains a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Handles confidential information with discretion and professionalism
