Registered Nurse Preceptor

The Registered Nurse Preceptor functions as a teacher and mentor in guiding, directing and supervising technical nursing activities of the nurse preceptee. Provides guidance and consultation when needed, regarding effective patient care and scope of practice. Creates formal and informal learning opportunities for peers regarding practice issues, technology and/or current research, identifies and intervenes when staff weaknesses are identified. The Registered Nurse Preceptor is responsible for the oversight of the preceptee in delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

The Registered Nurse Preceptor also directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice without assistance to neonates, adolescents and women of child bearing age. Utilizes the chain of command when necessary to ensure patient well-being and appropriateness of care to babies and mothers during the ante partum and post partum periods.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid state Registered Nurse license.

2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.

3. NRP 30 days upon hire preferred.

4. Completion of preceptor class.

5. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Central Maine Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $XX.XX to $XX.XX. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
