As the Business Development Manager (BDM), you will be responsible for finding and signing new high‑value customers for Emery Jensen across our key customer channels:
Pro Lumber, Pro Paint, and Hardware Stores/Home Centers. The role involves identifying prospects, building a pipeline, assessing their needs, and presenting the Emery Jensen value proposition to secure new business. The BDM serves as an ambassador for Emery Jensen, fostering relationships with industry organizations, vendor partners, and prospective customers, and working closely with the sales team to support smooth transitions to Territory Managers after account sign‑up.
- Build and maintain a robust prospect pipeline to achieve sales targets over a 12‑month cycle.
- Analyze ROI, customer lifetime value, and financial levers to design profitable sales approaches.
- Conduct market research, pursue leads, and articulate Emery Jensen’s value proposition to potential clients.
- Prepare pre‑call and post‑call plans, including decision‑maker information, competitive analysis, ROI calculations, and opportunity planning.
- Leverage marketing and merchandising materials to present tailored solutions.
- Participate in national industry organizations and events to generate prospects and strengthen relationships with partner sales teams.
- Coordinate account transition with Territory Managers and manage travel, meeting, and membership expenses within budget limits.
- Maintain accurate records of prospecting activities and measurable outcomes.
- College degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years in business development or territory management.
- Comfortable with cold calling and demonstrable success in new customer acquisition.
- Knowledge or experience in the hard‑lines industry preferred.
- Existing book of business is highly preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, business intelligence systems, and CRM tools.
- Travel up to 75% of the time; must reside in one of the specified regions.
$98,000 – $110,000 annual base salary.
