Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Position Overview
Mechanical craft work focusing on the maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of heavy vehicle, automotive, and construction equipment. Must diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, evaluate overall conditions, and perform skilled technical tasks such as testing, installing, repairing, rebuilding, rewiring, replacing, and fabricating parts for a variety of heavy vehicles and construction equipment. Limited time may be spent on light automotive equipment. Work performed under general supervision.
Responsibilities- Maintain, repair, and rebuild automotive and construction equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems.
- Evaluate overall equipment condition.
- Perform skilled tasks in testing, installing, repairing, rebuilding, rewiring, replacing, and fabricating parts.
- Work may include limited light automotive equipment maintenance.
- Operate under general supervision.
- Four (4) years of experience, education, or training in the maintenance, repair, and/or rebuilding of automotive and/or construction equipment, including at least two (2) years with heavy vehicle and construction equipment.
- Class B CDL with air endorsements and Class A & D inspection licenses; some positions may also require a Class E inspection license.
Must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class:
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air endorsements.
- Class A & D inspection licenses.
- Class E inspection license (required for some positions).
