Preble Street’s Veteran Housing Services (VHS) team provides services and supports to veterans throughout Maine toward overcoming barriers to finding and maintaining housing. With funding from the U.S. Dept. of Veteran Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF), the VHS program offers case management; employment, benefit, and resource referrals; intensive housing counseling; and direct financial assistance for housing to veterans who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
A Caseworker position is available with VHS in the Lewiston office. The VHS casework team works across Maine to offer support to veterans and their families in finding and maintaining stable housing through community-based outreach and short-term, intensive, client-centered case management. Guided by Preble Street’s mission to provide low-barrier services to people experiencing homelessness, the work of the VHS team toward ending veteran homelessness is informed by Housing First, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed service approaches.
The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:00am‑4:30pm.
Qualifications- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred but not required.
- Comparable combination of education and experience is encouraged.
- Understanding of and alignment with Preble Street’s mission.
- Positive regard for individuals accessing services for homelessness and poverty.
- Commitment to providing low-barrier, high-quality services to people experiencing homelessness.
- Strong organizational and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Veteran status is not required.
- Regional travel is required, with mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use for work-related travel.
The hourly rate of pay for this full-time (40 hours per week) position is $23.12 per hour.
