POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of Atlantic Power Constructors’ fleet and equipment operations. This position oversees the acquisition, maintenance, utilization, compliance, repair, replacement, and disposal of the Company’s fleet assets, including vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, and support equipment. The Fleet Manager leads all fleet-related personnel, including Mechanics, the Fleet Coordinator, and Yard Personnel, while ensuring fleet assets are safe, reliable, cost-effective, and available to support operations across all regions.
This role partners closely with Operations, Safety, Finance, Project Management, and Executive Leadership to support construction activities, storm restoration efforts, and company growth initiatives.
Fleet and Equipment Operations
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Company’s fleet of vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, and support assets.
- Ensure fleet assets are properly maintained, inspected, registered, licensed, and available to support operational needs.
- Develop and implement fleet management policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Coordinate equipment assignments, transfers, mobilizations, and demobilizations across operating regions.
- Monitor fleet utilization and recommend strategies to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate fleet inventories, equipment records, and asset documentation.
- Support fleet readiness for storm restoration and emergency response operations.
Equipment Lifecycle Management
- Develop and manage equipment replacement and lifecycle plans.
- Evaluate equipment performance and make recommendations regarding repair, replacement, or disposal.
- Coordinate procurement of vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, and fleet-related assets.
- Partner with Operations and Executive Leadership to forecast future equipment needs.
- Standardize fleet specifications and equipment selection where appropriate.
- Oversee warranty administration and recovery opportunities.
Maintenance and Repair Management
- Lead preventive maintenance and repair programs for all fleet and equipment assets.
- Monitor equipment downtime and implement strategies to improve asset reliability and availability.
- Coordinate maintenance activities through internal mechanics and external service providers.
- Review repair costs and identify opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency and cost control.
- Ensure proper maintenance documentation and recordkeeping.
Leadership and Personnel Management
- Directly supervise Fleet Mechanics, the Fleet Coordinator, and Yard Personnel.
- Establish performance expectations and hold team members accountable for results.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, development, and training.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, disciplinary actions, and succession planning.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Develop staffing plans to support operational growth and business needs.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure fleet assets remain compliant with applicable federal, state, local, DOT, and company requirements.
- Maintain vehicle registrations, permits, inspections, titles, and related documentation.
- Partner with the Safety Department on fleet safety initiatives, accident investigations, corrective actions, and equipment-related compliance matters.
- Support implementation and utilization of fleet telematics, GPS tracking, and monitoring systems.
- Assist in evaluating and implementing fleet technologies that improve safety and operational performance.
- Driver qualification files, driver records, and driver compliance programs remain under the responsibility of the Safety Department.
Financial and Vendor Management
- Develop and manage the fleet operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor expenditures related to maintenance, repairs, fuel, rentals, leases, registrations, and equipment acquisitions.
