Work Hours: Varied__up to 4-5 hours for most routes with the exception of the special education route which is up to 8 hours; more for activities depending on trip

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, operate a school bus over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, to safely and courteously transport students to and from school and activities; conducts classroom and behind-the-wheel driver training and other related duties; perform a variety of transportation department functions, including general office assistance, by performing the following duties.

Other duties may be assigned.

• Conduct bus driver classroom and behind-the-wheel training sessions and maintain records related to training hours. Participate in training in areas of bus driving, safety and skills, first aid, and CPR.
• Assist the Director of Transportation in a variety of department support functions as directed.
• Obey all traffic laws and maintain safe driving record.
• Comply with local traffic regulations. Report delays or accidents.
• Responsible for pre-trip safety inspections, completing daily inspection reports and notifying Transportation Director of any defects.
• Maintain discipline when students are on bus and reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
• Transport only authorized students and discharge students only at authorized stops.
• Maintain a clean bus; interior and exterior.
• Adhere to published route schedules and be punctual to work.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with staff, supervisors, students, parents and public.

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, have a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The special education route requires experience working with special populations. Prefer advanced driver's training or equivalent.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Must hold a valid Montana Type II Class B driver's license with air brake endorsement, current first aid certification and physical exam card. Prefer advanced driver's training certification.
