A Kindergarten Teacher at Forsyth Country Day School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students in his or her classroom, utilizing the school's instructional program. The teacher works to create meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences in order to continue to build strong foundational skills for lifelong learning.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled, dynamic instructor with experience teaching structured literacy, writing, and math using a direct and explicit approach. Candidates should be comfortable providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students, be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues on a regular basis, and share information relative to student progress. The candidate should be enthusiastic about participating in curriculum collaboration with teammates and specialists.
Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate commitment to growing and learning through professional development courses and workshops.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Demonstrates a strong understanding of instructional best practices. For structured literacy (phonological awareness, phonics, explicit reading and writing instruction, and small groups), math, and social studies
● Utilizes a range of data sources to drive instruction, plan for support, and set goals for students. This includes assessing and reporting on student learning, including formative and benchmark assessments, report cards, and parent conferences.
● Employs a variety of teaching methods including individual and small group instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, attitudes, and backgrounds. This includes implementing small and whole group instruction in math, social studies, language arts, and social-emotional learning.
● Supports students' social-emotional learning through morning meetings and in collaboration with other team members and faculty.
● Builds strong partnerships with families and communicates regularly about student learning and classroom events, including conducting conferences.
● Identifies students' needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping support students' health, behavioral, and learning needs.
● Participates in all divisional, team, department, and faculty meetings.
● Maintains a positive attitude and conducts oneself professionally with respect to students, faculty, parents, and the community.
● Vigorously pursues knowledge of best teaching practices and of ages of students taught.
