Job Title
Estimator – on‑site position.
OverviewDallas Mechanical Group (DMG), a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, is a full‑service provider of commercial HVAC construction, service, and maintenance solutions. We specialize in all types of commercial HVAC systems and offer in‑house engineering and design capabilities across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines.
Responsibilities- Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products.
- Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Prepare estimates used by management for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
- Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Review contract and bid documents; understand scope for project turnover.
- Attend walk‑throughs, pre‑bid, and scope clarification meetings.
- Perform quantitative take‑off and computer entry.
- Prepare scope letters and proposals.
- Maintain relationships with customers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate efforts with the Engineering Department.
- Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, and availability of materials.
- Review quotes obtained from subcontractors for accurate scope of work as per plans and specs.
- Ensure documents are centrally saved in the company’s drive within the confidential estimating folder(s).
- Assist project managers with takeoffs and pricing changes in work.
- Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Vice President of Preconstruction with recommendations for resolution.
- Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
- Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.
- Attend job walks, team meetings, and site visits.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Knowledge of the appropriate codes and standards that govern design and operating requirements.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Capability to handle confidential information.
- Organized and able to prioritize tasks.
