The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for developing and preparing cost estimates for electrical projects of varying size and complexity both public and private to ensure company competitiveness, profitability and growth.
Core Responsibilities- Learn the strategies and processes of the Estimating Department and follow them on every project
- Review and evaluate project plans and specifications, bid documents, and other relevant project documents to determine scope of work
- Analyze and interpret all construction documents (electrical, mechanical, civil, architectural, specifications, etc.) to accurately quantify all electrical scope items provided in bid package
- Understand the National Electric Code in order to review drawings for accuracy and completeness
- Accurately quantify all material and labor requirements associated with the project
- Identifies any inconsistent issues, conflicts, and other opportunities in the bid documents and create/submit RFIs where necessary
- Identifies strategies to create bid advantages and VE ideas to each estimate
- Responsible for performing job walks to ensure that any field conditions have been observed that may affect the construction, may impact the prospective bid, and/or may impact the pre-construction design and build.
- Requests material and equipment quotes from vendors and equipment suppliers
- Process project quotations, tabulating and analyzing quotations as to price, terms, delivery, and general conformity with requirements of the inquiry and specifications.
- Accurately input all relevant take-off information into applicable computer software
- Prepare proposal and scope of work letter and/or RFP response package of information
- Prepare recap/summary sheet for all estimates. Assist with final assembly of estimate for presentation to customer.
- Ensure that estimates are complete, well-organized and ready for review before the given deadline
- Deal directly with General Contractor, Vendor and/or Customer as a company representative regarding the estimate.
- Build & strengthen existing and new relationships
- Must attend additional weekly estimating/sales meetings to discuss bid status and present/solve problems.
- Conduct coordination with other individuals to ensure proper handover of job information, including budget & forecast information
- May additionally attend project meetings at times to assist in analyzing/solving project issues.
- Follow awarded contracts, as assigned – may include estimating additional work items, change orders, procuring material, etc.
- Assist others in the department with larger projects
- Track required bidding and sales metrics to support overall estimating scorecard and analysis
- Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Communicates effectively with office personnel, engineers, architects, general contractors, customers, and team members. Is courteous and cordial to customers.
