The BESL Instructional Specialist will collaborate with campus leaders, teachers, and members of the BESL team to strengthen instructional practices that support Emergent Bilingual (EB) students. This role includes analyzing student performance data, monitoring academic progress, and providing targeted coaching and professional development to ensure high-quality instruction that promotes academic success for EB students.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification for secondary education
- Valid Texas ESL Certification
- Master’s degree in educational leadership or curriculum and instruction (preferred)
- Texas principal or mid-level management certification (preferred)
- Experience working in elementary and secondary schools
- 1+ years coaching teachers
- Experience with Texas graduation requirements
- Experience with meeting the needs of At‑Risk Emergent Bilingual Students
- Knowledge of Texas personal graduation plans
- Knowledge of secondary grade level pacing
- Knowledge of the Texas graduation requirements
- Knowledge of Texas Assessment Program, district curriculum, and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the ELPS (English Language Proficiency Skills)
- Demonstrate a deep knowledge of content-based sheltered instruction (CBLI).
- Facilitates implementation of curriculum using EB accommodations.
- Ability to use computers proficiently for word processing, development of presentations and record-keeping
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Detail oriented

Responsibilities And Duties- Travel to Texas campuses to assist campus directors and teachers with data analysis and personal graduation plans for Emergent Bilingual (EB) students.
- Communicate with ESL Coordinators and Campus Directors to review EB student personal graduation plans to ensure graduation with their cohort.
- Assist with curriculum alignment, instruction strategies, and data analysis to ensure students are graduating.
- Meet with campus stakeholders to review student data to adjust instruction for small group pull-outs.
- Provides support to teachers in their classrooms through coaching, modeling, and mentoring best practices for EB students.
- Creates positive relationships with teachers, coordinators, and campus directors.
- Assist schools interpret the instructional program to parents.
- Maintain documentation in Google Drive and other pertinent documentation for the BEESL Department.
- Maintain accurate records of activities and results of efforts.
- Attend mandatory staff development training to perform job functions and improve LPAC compliance.
- Must be able to travel 50% or more as needed.
- Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills.
- Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
- Must be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making.
