Job Description

Position is responsible for the development of education programs as well as the practical delivery of them to a target audience. Works to educate the public of environmental issues, promoting conservation and sustainability, and enhancing the public's enjoyment of the environment through teaching and interpreting the natural world. We value the experience and loyalty of our returning employees and recognize their contributions by offering higher pay for each consecutive year they return to the same position.

For example, starting pay for new hires is $17.68 per hour. For employees returning for a second year, the hourly rate increases to $18.18, with further incremental increases for additional years up to six. This system rewards dedication and allows returning employees to continue growing with us while benefiting from their prior experience in the role with the City of Lewisville.

Entry: $17.68/hour Year 2: $18.18 Year 3: $18.69 Year 4: $19.19 Year 5: $19.70 Year 6: $20.20

Essential Functions
  • Interprets the natural environment for LLELA visitors, including K-8th grade students, Scouting groups, and families.
  • Ensures that programs and activities at LLELA are conducted in a safe, professional manner.
  • Works with the Recreation Supervisor - Environmental and Outdoors to ensure that necessary supplies are stocked and in good condition.
  • Interacts with participants, parents, staff, and supervisory personnel to provide high quality programs.
  • Responsible for reporting any incidents to supervisory staff.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.
Experience
  • 1 year of experience in outdoor education and nature programming, or a combination of experience and related college education.
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
Required Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of:
  • Knowledge of outdoor programming and recreation.
  • Knowledge of local natural science and ecology, including major ecosystem types and common flora and fauna.
Ability to:
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly
  • Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to be flexible in adjusting lesson plans for uncontrollable factors (late buses, unexpected incidents, etc.)
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, mud, and rain.
Skills:
  • Skill in delivering programs for children in a natural outdoor environment.
Other Requirements:
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License Class "C" and good driving record as defined by City policy.
Work Hours

This position is scheduled on an as needed basis depending on program requests, and does not guarantee 20 hours per week. Nights and weekends required.
