Controls Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on designing and developing advanced building automation and energy management control systems using Ignition within commercial, industrial, and data center environments. The Controls Engineer will create modern SCADA/HMI interfaces for HVAC and Building Management Systems, develop scalable system architectures, and configure backend infrastructure in a distributed controls environment. The position is hands-on and involves close collaboration with engineering teams to deliver reliable, user-friendly, and standardized control solutions that support energy performance monitoring and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
+ Design and develop Ignition-based SCADA and HMI systems for Building Management Systems and Energy Management Platforms.
+ Build and configure custom dashboards, graphics, and user interfaces for HVAC equipment and facility operations to ensure intuitive operator experiences.
+ Develop system architecture, including tag structures, alarming strategies, trending configurations, and navigation layouts for scalable control platforms.
+ Configure and manage Ignition gateways, projects, and modules to support distributed control environments.
+ Set up and maintain network communication between field devices, controllers, and servers to ensure reliable data flow and system performance.
+ Integrate control systems with PLCs and industrial communication protocols such as BACnet and Modbus.
+ Support data collection, visualization, and reporting for energy usage and overall system performance.
+ Collaborate with internal engineering teams on system design, deployment, and troubleshooting activities throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Assist in remote commissioning and system validation to confirm proper functionality and performance of control systems.
+ Ensure that all control solutions are scalable, standardized, and user-friendly for operators and facility personnel.
+ Travel to data centers and other facilities as needed to support system implementation, commissioning, and maintenance.
Essential Skills
+ Hands-on experience in controls engineering within building automation, energy management, or related environments.
+ Proficiency with Ignition for developing SCADA and HMI applications, including dashboards, graphics, and user interfaces.
+
Experience with PLC programming and PLC troubleshooting in industrial or commercial control systems.
+ Ability to design and implement tag structures, alarms, trends, and navigation layouts for control system architectures.
+ Experience configuring and managing Ignition gateways, projects, and modules.
+ Knowledge of integrating control systems with PLCs and industrial protocols such as BACnet and Modbus.
+ Strong understanding of network communication between field devices, controllers, and servers.
+ Ability to support data collection, visualization, and reporting for energy usage and system performance.
+ Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in distributed controls environments.
+ Willingness and ability to travel to data centers as part of a traveling role.
Work Environment
The role operates within an engineering-driven environment focused on advanced building automation, energy management, and data center facilities. The Controls Engineer will work with Ignition-based SCADA and HMI platforms, PLCs, industrial communication protocols such as BACnet and Modbus, and networked control infrastructure connecting field devices, controllers, and servers. The position involves a combination of office-based engineering work and field-based activities, including travel to data centers and other commercial or industrial facilities for system deployment, commissioning, and support.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Lewisville, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
