Plans, organizes, supervises work activities, and monitors the progress of the work performed in assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Performs supervisory functions in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Sets schedules, organizes, and monitors progress of work crews.
  • Performs regular park inspections to ensure adequate maintenance programs are being performed and coordinates timely playgrounds inspections and audits.
  • Documents all inspections and maintenance needs through approved asset/work order management systems.
  • Ensures compliance with CAPRA standards, safety requirements, and departmental maintenance standards.
  • Inspect and monitor equipment usage system, schedule equipment repairs and coordinates with Fleet services center on equipment replacement programs.
  • Maintains equipment inventory records and supports lifecycle replacement planning.
  • Must possess and exhibit the skills necessary to operate assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • Ensures compliance with preventative maintenance programs.
  • Coordinates the Integrated Pest Management system and oversees the prudent uses of chemicals, fertilizers, and watering schedules in the parks.
  • Ensures compliance with state, federal, city, and departmental pesticide regulations, policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains required application records and documentation.
  • Oversee the Cities mowing contracts and coordinating the park operations ‘expand the green’ initiatives at all levels.
  • Assist with the coordination of special events, attend event meetings, and work with other City departments with the set ups and schedules.
  • Coordinates operational logistics including site preparation, risk mitigation, staffing coordination, and post-event restoration.
  • Supervises and coordinates private contractors doing work for the City in the assigned area of responsibility. Reviews contractor work for quality, safety compliance, and contract specifications.

    Documents contractor performance and assists with contract evaluation processes.
  • Responsible for the hiring of subordinates and is involved in the promotion and disciplinary process.
  • Participates in recruitment, onboarding, training, evaluation, coaching, and corrective action processes.
  • Responsible for coordinating and implementing division safety programs and working with the City safety committee to review accidents and injuries.
  • Conducts regular safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
  • Investigates incidents and recommends corrective actions.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience

Three (3) years of park maintenance or equivalent experience required. Two (2) years of supervisory experience required. Experience leading crews in a municipal or commercial landscape environment preferred. Experience with asset/work order systems preferred.

Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

License and Certifications

Possess or obtain within 6 months of employment a Certified Pesticide Applicator License or a Certified Pool Operator License or equivalent.

Conditions of Employment

Must submit to and pass a criminal background and pre-employment drug test. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver’s License Class “C” and good driving record as defined by City policy. An applicant who does not possess a Texas Driver's License or proper class, will be allowed ten (10) working days after a job offer is made to obtain proper licensing.
