This position performs regular preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure equipment functions properly. Analyzes and repairs equipment by using tools to repair damage and by replacing parts that cannot be repaired. May assist in whatever is necessary to keep equipment running. May perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs. Performs the duties of a mechanic involved in inspecting, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs on a Class 8 Mainly Mack and other brands.
  • Performs the duties of a mechanic involved in hands on repairs and maintenance of vehicles.
  • May train shop personnel in the use of equipment.
  • Inspects equipment, analyzes trouble and plans sequence of repair operations.
  • Demonstrates ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.
  • Adjusts, repairs or replaces parts in engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes and other equipment.
  • Will be expected to drive company vehicle to jobsite to repair equipment.
  • Knowledge to troubleshoot problems and communicate to supervisor.
  • Ensures all trucks meet DOT specifications.
  • Expected to keep tools organized and clean work areas.
  • Safety glasses required and all safety guards in space.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Various types of heavy equipment and other power-driven equipment and tools.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Skilled in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in the repair of trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Minimum 3 years as a Mechanic.
  • Must be able to operate various computer diagnostic devices, Pc’s and laptops.
  • Ability to analyze and repair mechanical failures.
  • Ability to work effectively and establish good working relationships with other employees.
  • Must own a large variety of tools and a tool box.
EDUCATION:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical trade school experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to verbally communicate to others
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds to overhead position
  • Must be able to push and pull up to 50 ponds
  • Must possess the ability to stand or long periods of time
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends when necessary

Requires heavy lifting of parts and tools. When parts are extremely heavy, must have the ability to run lifting equipment such as forklifts, jacks, etc.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move between 50 – 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
