Distinguishing Characteristics:
Under direct supervision, performs entry-level manual labor or mechanical duties. Employees at this level perform the full range of tasks associated with the position and work under close supervision while learning the procedures, performing the duties, and acquiring skills.
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
* Performs general, preventative, and corrective maintenance for City buildings and facilities as assigned, including more complex assignments.
* Prepares and inspects, equipment, vehicles, and tools for work assignments.
* Maintain cleanliness of facilities, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, glass cases, windows, tables, and chairs, disinfecting water fountains, cleaning storage, and mechanical rooms, cleaning and flushing drains, clearing dryer vents, picking up and removing trash, and dusting.
* Performs general maintenance replacing batteries, changing clocks, maintaining building supplies, changing light bulbs, painting, checking pipes, and spraying for insects.
* Assist in the repair of the HVAC systems, electrical systems, and roofing.
* Repairs or replaces parts and equipment as needed.
* Installs and/or repairs plumbing lines, parts, and fixtures.
* Moves, disassembles, reassembles, and repairs furniture and hangs bulletin boards, whiteboards, and dedication plaques as needed.
* Repairs and installs doorways, doors, cabinets, cubicles, railing, drywall/sheetrock, roofing, flooring, molding, and shelving units as needed.
* Perform mechanical repairs on equipment, building systems, doors, security, and fire systems, etc.
* Picks up and delivers mail from post office, annex, and city hall.
* Reviews night-time contract custodians' work and reports deficiencies to the Supervisor.
* Subject to be on call 24 hours for emergencies and respond as necessary for the area of assigned responsibility.
* Assists in large events (ex. Western Days, Christmas Lighting ceremony, July 4th Celebration) preparation.
* Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
Six (6) months of experience in a skilled building and/or construction trade.
Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.

Conditions of Employment:
Must submit and pass a pre-employment drug, pre-placement medical examination, and the job placement assessment (JPA). Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License Class "C" and good driving record as defined by City policy.
Other Requirements:
This position is subject to emergency operations. The individual holding this position will be required to work as usual or as needed,
1) during emergency operations,
2) in preparation for prolonged emergency operations, and/ or
3) during recovery from prolonged emergency operations as directed by his/her direct supervisor, Department Head or designee, or the City Manager or designee.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Proper use of hand and power tools required to perform facility maintenance; HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, paint, cleaning chemical, and lubricant application; and safety practices to be observed in building maintenance activities.
Skilled in:
Using mechanical-electrical/power tools, equipment, and machinery used in everyday construction and equipment installation; operating indoor and outdoor lift equipment including bucket trucks, forklifts, scissor lifts, and crawlers; applying and reading diagnostic tools; troubleshooting and reading diagrams; performing electrical and plumbing soldering; repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures, lines, fittings, equipment, and components; accepting responsibility for his/her actions; performing work accurately and thoroughly;
following instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks; communicating effectively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing; being punctual and attending work regularly; and working effectively with people regardless of their race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, genetics, or job type.
