Property Accountant
Position Overview
An Entry-Level Property Accountant supports the accounting team in managing the financial operations of a portfolio of real estate properties. This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with monthly reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and property management requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with monthly close processes
, including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations - Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts for assigned properties
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements for individual properties
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable
, including tenant billing and rent tracking - Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure accurate financial data
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities for property portfolios
- Analyze financial data and investigate variances or discrepancies
- Prepare documentation for audits and tax filings
- Ensure timely payments of expenses such as mortgages, taxes, and vendor invoices
- Work closely with property managers and operations teams to resolve financial issues
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 0–2 years of accounting experience (internship or entry-level acceptable)
- Basic understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, Real Page is a plus)
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
- Knowledge of property management or real estate accounting
- Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
