Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support the financial stewardship of central Kentucky client. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, producing meaningful financial reporting, and helping ensure sound oversight of budgets, grants, and operational funds. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

- Review financial activity across institutional budgets, grants, contracts, and multiple funding sources to confirm alignment with applicable guidelines and reporting obligations.

- Prepare and examine journal entries, payroll-related transactions, invoices, and other accounting records to maintain complete and accurate financial data.

- Perform general ledger maintenance, month-end close activities, and account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and review of supporting documentation.

- Analyze spending patterns, revenue results, and cost trends to support budgeting decisions and promote effective fiscal control.

- Produce financial statements, management reports, and ad hoc analyses that help leadership evaluate operational and budget performance.

- Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, vendors, and funding representatives by explaining financial policies, resolving account questions, and clarifying reporting details.

- Support grant accounting functions by tracking expenditures, preparing required financial information, and helping ensure compliance with sponsor requirements.

- Contribute to audit preparation and related reviews by organizing records, responding to inquiries, and assisting with corrective follow-up when needed.

- Provide guidance and day-to-day support to entry-level accounting staff or student employees while promoting consistent accounting practices.

- Assist with additional accounting and finance assignments that advance departmental priorities and institutional goals.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- Demonstrated experience in senior-level accounting work, preferably within higher education, government, or another regulated environment.

- Strong knowledge of general ledger activity, month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.

- Experience with bank reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting support, and cost analysis.

- Familiarity with grant accounting and with financial compliance requirements tied to federal, state, or other restricted funding sources.

- Proficiency with spreadsheet applications and computerized accounting or enterprise financial systems.

- Ability to interpret financial policies, analyze complex data, and present information in a clear and practical manner.

- Strong communication skills with the ability to train or guide others and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
