Overview

United Way of the Bluegrass (UWBG) works to create the opportunity for all community members to have a better life. We focus on the building blocks of a good life — a quality education, financial stability for individuals and families, and good health. The work of UWBG focuses on strategic initiatives, public education, advocacy, outcomes and evaluation, development and strengthening of partnerships/collaborations, convening resource mobilization and investment, and backbone and engagement strategies and activities.

We bring together the voices, the expertise, and the resources to define, articulate and implement a common agenda for change for our region. That is what it means to "Live United" in Central Kentucky.

POSITION

The VITA Program Support Specialist provides operational and administrative support to the VITA program to strengthen volunteer recruitment, employer-based drop-off services, and filing season operations. The position is intentionally front-loaded to support peak tax season activity and transitions to reduced hours later in the year to support volunteer engagement, planning, and coordination activities. This role supports—but does not replace—the volunteer-based tax preparation model.

Responsibilities
  • Support volunteer recruitment and onboarding, including coordination of background checks, training logistics, and communications.
  • Assist with employer-based drop-off site coordination, including scheduling, document tracking, and follow-up.
  • Support virtual and in-person appointment workflows, including intake, appointment coordination, and administrative follow-up.
  • Assist with tax site administration tasks, including the collection and tracking of required IRS documentation and materials.
  • Support quality assurance and administrative processes to ensure compliance with IRS VITA Quality Site Requirements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of taxpayer and volunteer information.
  • Provide general program support to ensure continuity of services during peak filing season.
Compliance and Program Integrity
  • Adheres to IRS Code of Conduct and confidentiality requirements.
  • Volunteers remain the primary tax preparers at all times.
  • This position provides administrative and coordination support only and does not function as a stand-alone tax preparer role.
