Position Summary

The Clery Compliance Officer serves as the institutional subject matter expert responsible for overseeing and ensuring comprehensive compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Title IX (as applicable), and other related federal and state regulations.

This position leads campus-wide compliance efforts, coordinates cross-functional collaboration, manages regulatory risk, and ensures accurate reporting, policy development, training, and emergency preparedness in support of institutional safety, transparency, and accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties – Clery Compliance Program Administration:
  • Coordinate and manage the institution’s Clery Act Compliance Program.
  • Serve as the institutional subject matter expert on Clery compliance, advising campus stakeholders on regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Clery-related policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive compliance calendar and risk management framework.
  • Identify compliance gaps and implement corrective action plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary institutional contact during Department of Education audits and program reviews.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and ensure institutional alignment with evolving federal requirements.
Essential Duties – Reporting, Data Management, and Records Oversight:
  • Prepare, publish, and distribute the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR).
  • Submit annual crime statistics to the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Serve as the Campus Safety Survey Administrator.
  • Collect, analyze, and validate crime and disciplinary data from internal and external sources.
  • Ensure proper classification of incidents in coordination with Public Safety.
  • Maintain daily crime and fire logs in compliance with federal requirements.
  • Serve as Records Custodian for all Clery-related documentation.
Essential Duties – Audit, Risk Management, and Accountability:
  • Lead internal compliance audits and mock federal program reviews.
  • Maintain a centralized repository of compliance documentation and audit evidence.
  • Provide regular compliance reports, risk assessments, and updates to senior leadership.
  • Recommend corrective actions and elevate compliance concerns when institutional risk is identified.
Essential Duties – Campus Security Authorities (CSA) Program:
  • Identify and maintain a current list of Campus Security Authorities (CSAs).
  • Conduct annual crime data collection from CSAs.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive CSA training programs.
  • Track and maintain CSA training completion records for audit purposes.
Essential Duties – Clery Geography & Law Enforcement Coordination:
  • Develop and maintain Clery geography maps, including campus, non-campus, and public property.
  • Coordinate with Facilities, Legal, and academic units to identify reportable locations.
  • Establish and maintain Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with local law enforcement agencies.
  • Conduct annual outreach to law enforcement agencies for crime statistics.
Essential Duties – Training, Policy, and Compliance Integration:
  • Conduct annual Clery Act training and campus safety education programs.
  • Collaborate with Title IX, Student Affairs, and Human Resources to ensure policy alignment.
  • Review and update institutional policies to ensure regulatory compliance and consistency.
  • Support compliance with VAWA, Drug-Free Schools, and related federal mandates.
Essential Duties – Emergency Preparedness & Notifications:
  • Manage the institution’s Timely Warning program.
  • Coordinate Emergency Notification compliance with Public Safety and Communications.
  • Facilitate annual emergency response testing and exercises.
Essential Duties – Hazing Prevention Compliance:
  • Coordinate institutional compliance with federal and state hazing prevention laws.
  • Develop and maintain hazing-related policies, procedures, and reporting protocols.
  • Collaborate with Student Life, Athletics, and affiliated organizations on prevention initiatives.
