Position overview:

Experienced Field Engineer required to support construction projects on a mandatory night shift schedule (4pm-4am) including evenings, overnight hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Site Manager in layout of building items, primarily structural, civil, process, and architectural items.
  • Assist Site Manager in procurement of construction materials.
  • Assist site and project team in execution of purchase orders, monitor deliveries, and execute receiving reports.
  • Perform on‑site material placement surveys as required, ensuring accurate quantities reported weekly or as directed.
  • Assist Site Manager in scheduling construction activities, monitoring material deliveries and subcontractor performance, and consolidating activity reports.
  • After two to six months, develop bid lists, issue procurement documents, review bids, and evaluate proposals per Site Manager direction and consultation with the Project Manager.
  • Assist Site Manager in establishing and maintaining high safety and QA/QC standards, including leading safety meetings.
  • Review, assimilate and log shop drawings and submittals.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date as‑built drawings and correlate construction documents.
  • Perform general labor and cleanup tasks as needed.
  • Manage the jobsite in the absence of the Site Manager on a regular basis.
  • Perform and record QA/QC audits throughout the jobsite across all divisions of work.
  • Assist in preparing the project’s daily and monthly man‑hour reports.
  • Make safety and quality decisions on the spot and bring out‑of‑spec issues to the ASM and SM for guidance.
  • Serve as on‑site safety officer when one is not assigned.
  • Investigate safety incidents and produce accurate reports for Site Manager and Project Management.
  • Coordinate with city officials, OSHA, and inspectors to schedule and conduct inspections.
  • Communicate, implement and enforce Gray’s safety program on site.
  • Assume ownership of scopes of work and subcontractor management as assigned by SM.
  • Keep progress drawings updated daily using Bluebeam, Excel, or Assemble.
  • Generate meeting agendas and minutes for SM review and distribution.
  • Receive verbal or written direction, provide constructive criticism, and bring customer requested changes to SM and PM.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school AND minimum 2 years of related construction experience, OR 4+ years of relevant construction experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Strong work ethic, energetic, self‑motivated, enjoys teamwork and collaboration, and is passionate about professional development.

Travel: Projects are located throughout the United States and occasionally outside the U.S. Candidates may live anywhere in the USA but must be willing to travel per Gray’s travel policy.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, use of hands and arms, reaching, speaking, and hearing. Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must lift and/or move up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally. Vision requirements include accurate near and distant vision. Exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, extreme temperatures, electrical shock, explosives, vibration, and moderate to loud noise.

Overtime and additional travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Coordinate with PM and SM to ensure subcontractors perform work in accordance with contract guidelines.
