Job Description
Under general supervision provides child support and customer services to the general public.
Required QualificationsCompletion of a secondary education. Associates degree in court systems or related discipline. Prefer one year working as a Child Support Enforcement Agency Intake Specialist or Telephone Information Clerk. Consideration will be given for any equivalent combinations or training and experience.
Job DutiesPerform child support services, which include absent parent location, paternity and support establishment, enforcement of medical and/or support orders and review and adjustment of established support orders, and fiscal audits and adjustments.
Explain court procedures and legal processes, child support policies and procedures, the status and priority of individual cases to clients etc.
Prepare information for presentation in court and/or administrative hearings, and appear at said hearings on the behalf of the agency.
Complete and calculate repayment agreements when clients have received child support improperly.
Verify delinquencies and apply appropriate enforcement techniques to resolve. Contact delinquent payor by letter telephone, or personal interview.
Perform functions related to support assistance (e.g. contacts Local Office of DJFS Staff to provide/obtain information and refer clients to appropriate job and family service units as situation requires.)
Verify support obligations and pay records in accordance with applicable court and administrative orders. Calculate arrearages and update support payment records. Complete audits and distribution on cases as needed. Performs other fiscal duties as assigned.
Request adjustments for misapplied payments.
Perform any other accounting adjustments as necessary, including distribution of funds between CP and ODJFS.
Attempt to resolve problems with child support non-payment or welfare fraud payments.
Request disbursement of funds when monies are due either absent or custodial parents. Includes escrowing funds, releasing funds from escrow, and special handling of cases.
Receive complaints in person, by letter, fax or e-mail and by telephone regarding cases of child support and/or welfare fraud.
Receive telephone calls from customers to address specific case related problems. Define the specifics of the question or complaint, and attempt to resolve matter for the customer(s).
Prepare documents when necessary to refer customers to child support units. Assist customers with completion of forms and documents via the telephone.
Maintain case status, track telephone calls, and update records on the computer and record issues on SFRC.
Provide assistance and information to clients and the general public in response to request received via telephone or in person. Serve as back-up to the CSEA Phone Bank.
Performs other related duties as required.
