Assist principals, teachers, and instructional assistants in developing instructional strategies, behavior management plans, and academic programs for students with disabilities. Support appropriate classroom settings and serve as a consultant to Admission and Release Committees.
Essential Job Functions- Coordinate ongoing staff development activities for general and special education teachers and instructional assistants regarding instructional strategies, program development, and identification procedures.
- Assist principals, teachers, and classroom assistants with instructional programming, curriculum implementation, accommodations, and extensions to increase access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
- Provide consultation and direct assistance to staff and parents regarding programs and services for students with disabilities.
- Implement federal and state regulations and district policies related to the identification and service delivery of students with disabilities.
- Develop and coordinate plans with other resource specialists related to programs and service delivery for students with disabilities.
- Stay abreast of research, trends in motivation, instructional materials and equipment, methodology, professional literature, and other significant aspects related to educating students with disabilities.
- Develop and provide ongoing professional development activities for special education and general education staff.
- Maintain a current inventory of materials, equipment, and needed repairs.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate in more than one language or willingness to learn at novice proficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular attendance.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree and three (3) years of successful special education teaching experience.
- Kentucky Teaching Certificate in an area of Special Education.
- Strong knowledge base in special education curriculum and instruction; ability to manage time efficiently and work well with others.
- Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
- Supervisor of Instruction, Director of Special Education, or Consultant Certificate.
- Work while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
- Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Ability to bend, squat, crawl, climb, reach.
- Ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights.
Education and professional development responsibilities include staying current with research trends and providing staff training.
BenefitsSalary range: $55,939 to $99,102 per year based on verified education and related experience levels.
