Assist principals, teachers, and instructional assistants in developing instructional strategies, behavior management plans, and academic programs for students with disabilities. Support appropriate classroom settings and serve as a consultant to Admission and Release Committees.

• Coordinate ongoing staff development activities for general and special education teachers and instructional assistants regarding instructional strategies, program development, and identification procedures.
• Assist principals, teachers, and classroom assistants with instructional programming, curriculum implementation, accommodations, and extensions to increase access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
• Provide consultation and direct assistance to staff and parents regarding programs and services for students with disabilities.
• Implement federal and state regulations and district policies related to the identification and service delivery of students with disabilities.
• Develop and coordinate plans with other resource specialists related to programs and service delivery for students with disabilities.
• Stay abreast of research, trends in motivation, instructional materials and equipment, methodology, professional literature, and other significant aspects related to educating students with disabilities.
• Develop and provide ongoing professional development activities for special education and general education staff.
• Maintain a current inventory of materials, equipment, and needed repairs.
• Demonstrate ability to communicate in more than one language or willingness to learn at novice proficiency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Maintain regular attendance.

Education and Experience:

• Master’s Degree and three (3) years of successful special education teaching experience.
• Kentucky Teaching Certificate in an area of Special Education.
• Strong knowledge base in special education curriculum and instruction; ability to manage time efficiently and work well with others.

• Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
• Supervisor of Instruction, Director of Special Education, or Consultant Certificate.

• Work while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
• Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
• Use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
• Ability to bend, squat, crawl, climb, reach.
• Ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights.

Education and professional development responsibilities include staying current with research trends and providing staff training.

Salary range: $55,939 to $99,102 per year based on verified education and related experience levels.
