Spend your Fall at North-Central 4-H Camp in 2026! We are currently hiring environmental educators to teach classes and facilitate programs for our overnight environmental camp experiences for school youth in our service region (North-Central Kentucky).

Interns can expect to work with primarily 4th and 5th grade students, their parents, and their teachers; helping to educate participants on the natural world, and fostering respect and appreciation for all that it can offer.

This is a paid internship opportunity, ideally designed for current or recently graduated students, but open to all applicants. Room and board are provided on-site at our 365 acre, University of Kentucky owned facility in Carlisle, KY, about 45 minutes North-East of Lexington.

Position runs from August 24th-November 6th (12 weeks), but may be extended or early arrival approved for applicants who need to meet academic credit requirements for internships.

Specific Responsibilities Organize and Teach Environmental Education Classes

Prepare lesson plans, gather resources, materials, organize program areas, and teach environmental educational classes that meet the needs/requests of school groups and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Organize and Facilitate Night Programs

Develop and facilitate various night programs such as night hikes, recreational games, and campfires.

Conduct an Environmental Project

Interns will collaborate with the camp director to prepare and conduct an environmental project that meets the needs of the camping program and the interests of the student. Interns will be responsible for completing the various components related to the approved project (research, organizing resources, written plans, etc…).

Site Maintenance and Stewardship

When groups are not on site, interns will be involved with maintenance and stewardship of the camp facilities, such as invasive species eradication, wildlife management, clearing trails, organizing classroom areas, etc…

General Responsibilities
  • Maintain a good working relationship with co-workers, Camp Director, Program Coordinator, UK Extension Staff, volunteer leaders, students and others.
  • Report to supervisor any needs or problems occurring during the environmental
  • Keep working areas clean and free from safety hazards.
  • Provide supervisor with an end of season inventory and status report of all resource material, teaching aids and equipment associated with area of expertise.
  • Perform any other duties as outlined by supervisor.
