Salary: $50,586 – $89,619 per year
Job SummaryTo help special‑needs students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible persons. The instructor plans and delivers instruction that meets the individual needs and abilities of students with learning and behavior disorders.
Essential Job Functions- Meet and instruct assigned classes at the designated locations and times.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
- Prepare for classes, providing written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisor.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of students or groups.
- Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals through instruction and action.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Diagnose learning disabilities regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulation.
- Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop classroom rules and procedures, maintaining order fairly and justly.
- Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional time when required.
- Plan and supervise assignments for instructional aides and volunteers; evaluate their performance with department heads.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate in more than one language, or show willingness to learn at the novice level.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular attendance.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
Licenses or
Certifications:
- Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for Special Education.

Physical Demands- Work while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
- Communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Use hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Perform bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Lift, carry, push or pull light weights.
