Adjunct Culinary Instructor – Lexington
We are currently looking for an adjunct culinary instructor at our Lexington location. Adjunct faculty members report to their respective dean and may have a dotted‑line reporting responsibility to a specified department or program director. They are student‑centered teaching mentors who assist students in progressing through their academic programs to completion. The role involves instruction and assessment of student learning.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate student learning in face‑to‑face, online, hybrid, or HyFlex environments; deliver effective, career‑relevant instruction; evaluate student learning for all assigned classes; respond to student inquiries and grade all assignments in a timely manner.
- Engage students using student‑engagement instructional techniques such as collaborative learning, experiential learning, and problem‑based learning.
- Deliver course curriculum utilizing the university’s learning management system.
- Participate in course and program‑level learning assessments, define student learning outcomes, select and administer assessment measures, evaluate student performance, suggest changes to improve student learning, and identify updates or corrections to courses as assigned.
- Work with the dean, department chair, and/or program director on development and revision of course maps and on selection and revision of course materials, processes where appropriate.
- Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, externship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program.
- Participate in student retention activities, reaching out to students with excessive absences, documenting retention activities, and ensuring students are aware of university services that may aid successful completion of their program.
- Communicate availability (e.g., office hours) to all students via email, phone, or other contact across all learning environments.
- Adjunct faculty are encouraged to attend graduation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s preferred; bachelor’s with industry experience considered;
Serv Safe & Progressional certification a plus. - Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in culinary, baking, hospitality, or nutrition; professional current specialty certification helpful.
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
- Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel to multiple locations as dictated by the course schedule.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and move about the campus.
- Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face‑to‑face, via telephone, and through electronic medium (e.g., email, recordings, virtual meetings).
Pay for this position is $1900 per class.
Hours will be as needed online, face‑to‑face (7 am‑2 pm), or HyFlex.
