Sayre School is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable part-time Lower School Librarian to join our educational community. In this role, you will create an inspiring and welcoming library environment for students in grades PK2-4th, fostering a love of reading and developing essential information literacy skills. The position is Monday through Friday, for 28 hours per week. The ideal candidate will expertly manage daily library operations, teach weekly library classes (8 hours per week), curate age-appropriate collections, and collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum goals.
This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on young readers through guided inquiry, hands-on learning experiences, and literacy engagement initiatives, including author visits and book fairs.
- Teaching and student engagement responsibilities
- Collection management and digital resource responsibilities
- Collaboration with teachers and organizing literacy initiatives
- Administrative duties and maintaining the library environment
- Master's or 4-year degree in Library and Information Sciences
- Minimum of three years' experience in a library setting or related field
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students
- Extensive knowledge of children's literature and age-appropriate resources
- Proficiency with library management systems and digital resources
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and staff
- Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school environment
- Physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds, push/pull book carts, and shelve materials
