Media Librarian responsibilities include developing and facilitating a school-based library media program that meets and exceeds goals established by federal, state, and local authorities, providing information needs of students and teachers in the instructional process.
Essential Job Functions- Conduct and facilitate activities and projects to provide quality school library media services to students and teachers.
- Manage and supervise the organization and operation of the school library/media center.
- Lead and direct the implementation of instructional technology plans as they relate to library and information services.
- Provide professional development for staff to encourage leadership, competence, and creativity in program development.
- Advocate principles of intellectual freedom regarding the universal right to read and access information.
- Prepare, administer, monitor, amend, and maintain the budget for the library/media center, handling recordkeeping, correspondence, requests, and meetings.
- Maintain knowledge of current statutes, policies, guidelines, regulations, trends, and research affecting instructional programs.
- Assist staff with curriculum, instruction, and assessment projects; participate on district and school committees as requested.
- Communicate matters related to instructional improvement to the Coordinator, Media Services.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate in more than one language or willingness to learn at a novice level.
- Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular attendance.
- Major in Library and Information Science.
- Master’s degree.
- Five years of successful teaching experience.
- Strong management and leadership ability.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple projects simultaneously.
- Kentucky certification for Library/Media Science (K‑12).
- Work involves standing, sitting, and walking.
- Requires effective communication using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Requires use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulation.
- Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Requires ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
$53,263 to $94,361 per year.
