Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.
Eligibility- Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher and maintain at least a half‑time or full‑time course load.
- Completion of four (4) full academic years of post‑high school study leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree.
- Individual must be enrolled in a degree program directly related to the position. Eligibility for conversion into the competitive service requires meeting the OPM degree requirements.
- Applicants must provide documentation from the educational institution verifying current enrollment with at least a half‑time or full‑time course load (e.g., Current Enrollment Verification Certificate, statement of current enrollment, or acceptance letter).
- Credit may be given for paid and unpaid experience; applicants must show actual time spent in activities (e.g., number of hours worked per week).

The Fair Chance Act prohibits specific inquiries concerning an applicant’s criminal or credit background unless a conditional offer of employment has been made. An applicant may submit a complaint or any other information to the agency within 30 calendar days of the alleged non‑compliance by contacting the EEO Office in the Central Office at BOP-PRD-EEOOffice-S.
After a conditional offer has been received, all applicants must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements related to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check.
