Instructor, Medical Coding

SUMMARY

Teaches a full range of skills and knowledge for the certificate program in medical coding. Prepares students to pass the CPC examination.

• Presents facilitative, well‑prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities consistent with the course syllabus (AAPC curriculum, medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, advanced medical coding, HCPCS coding, ICD‑10 coding) and school policies.
• Continually promotes students’ development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, professionalism, customer service, computation, problem solving, and decision‑making.
• Ability to instruct through remote and in‑person delivery (Blackboard, virtual classroom, and/or online using a Learning Management System).
• Provides the student with timely information and feedback on his/her academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework, and projects.
• Maintains accurate, up‑to‑date records of student academic and attendance performance.
• Possesses thorough knowledge and understanding of all college policies, and actively participates in their implementation and enforcement.
• Follows all retention policies of the college to ensure students are in attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Must be a Certified Professional Coder Instructor (CPC‑I) with the AAPC.
• Minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Coding Specialist in the field.
• Minimum of three years of teaching or related field experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing key metrics.

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to assess and grade the progress of students.
• Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
• Sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population.

• Demonstrated basic Blackboard skills (or equivalent program).
• Demonstrated experience with online instruction.

• The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment.
• The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
• Typical duties include sitting comfortably, repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. Some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.) may occur.
• Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.

Set‑Rate Non‑Bargaining Part‑Time Position: This is a Part‑Time Non‑Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $30.30/hour.
