Job Description

The Psychology Program at Southwest Minnesota State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology with a background in counseling/clinical psychology or a closely related area. We are a growing, collegial, and supportive program looking for a colleague who can add experience and expertise in clinical and counseling areas to support student interests and development. Position responsibilities include teaching a 24-credit course load per year (12 credits each semester), covering foundational areas of psychology related to counseling and/or clinical psychology, along with required major courses and electives.

The person in this position must have the necessary experience (see minimum qualifications below) to teach Abnormal Psychology, Counseling and Psychotherapy, Field Experience in Psychology, and other courses in their area of specialization. Duties also include student advising, contributing to student growth and development for both on campus and online students, committee assignments, engaging in ongoing professional development, supervising student research and internships, service to the University, the community, and the broader Minnesota State College and University System.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a closely related APA designated subfield from a CACRE or APA-accredited program (degree must be completed prior to start date).
  • Evidence of, or strong potential for, excellence in undergraduate teaching, demonstrated through teaching philosophy, pedagogical training, mentoring, instructional experience, or other relevant documentation.
  • Applied experience providing psychological services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and staff.

Preferred Qualification

  • Competence in instructional technology and online instruction.
  • Experience supervising practicum/internship staff/students or undergraduate research.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, etc.).

Priority will be given to those who apply by 3/25/26.

Other Considerations: The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States by the first day of employment. The University will not give consideration for H-1B sponsorship.
