Early Learning Center Teacher's Aid

Job Focus

This position is responsible for assisting the teacher in an education setting.

Part-Time

• 5-hour shift between 8:00am-5:00pm
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday

• Assist teacher in providing appropriate early childhood education experience
• Demonstrate knowledge of use of space, furnishing, and developmentally appropriate activities/ materials.
• Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to encourage children to engage in meaningful conversation
• Support an environment which engages and assist children in developing curiosity, exploration, respect of self and others, problem solving, security, and self-esteem while avoiding verbal or physical punishment
• Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, materials, and supplies
• Be able to individualize activities and make adaptions for children with special needs
• Follow regulations regarding health, safety, and sanitation across multiple settings.
• Maintain confidentiality, professional attitude, and loyalty to the program always
• Assist with collection of information about each child’s development
• Participate as a team member in planning, coordination, and implementing the program
• Act as an “ambassador” of the center by showing a warm, welcoming attitude toward families and their involvement in the life of the program
• Participate in professional development as required to improve performance and to expand personal knowledge of child development, interdisciplinary practice, and family centered services
• Develop and implement a written individual growth plan
• Assist with general housekeeping tasks, and keeping classrooms in clean state including mopping, trash, etc.
• Understand and comply with city and state regulations and licensing standards
• Provide other services as required for the efficient functioning of The Salvation Army

• High school diploma or GED Required; some college preferred
• 18 years or older
• Must meet requirements of city and state licensing agencies (Background checks, CPR, First aid, & TB Skin test)
• Previous experience working with children
• Creative, Enthusiastic, highly organized, flexible, good communication
• Clean and neat appearance
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds

• Childcare: 2 years (Preferred)
